Hot Rolled Reinforcing Steel Bars

Hot rolled steel is formed by a metal rolling process in which the steel is pressed at a temperature above its recrystallization threshold. This makes the steel easier to form and produces a product that is easier to work with. Hot rolled steel bars cover deformed billet concrete bars. Reinforcing bars are intended to be used as reinforcement in reinforced concrete structures. The surface of the rebar is provided with small lugs that prevent the rebar from moving longitudinally relative to the concrete surrounding it. Hot-rolled steel bars and hot-rolled sections are rolled from hot rolling mills or continuously cast blooms or billets in various sizes and cross-sections. Bars and profiles are usually produced in straight strips, but some bars with smaller cross-sectional dimensions are also produced in coils.
Surface treatment
It is not uncommon for hot rolled steel bars and profiles to be descaled by the manufacturer or protected from the weather during transport. Most cleaning and coating operations are done either by the user or by an intermediate processor. Descaling of hot rolled bars and profiles is usually accomplished by pickling or sandblasting, depending on the end use. There are several subsequent coats that can be used. Oil is the easiest and cheapest to use as a temporary rust inhibitor. In addition to being used as a rust preventive material, lime can also be used as a carrier for lubricants used in cold drawing or cold forging processes. More complex systems include descaling, followed by a zinc phosphate coating, plus dry lubricant. This system provides some rust protection and is used as a lubricant for cold forming operations.
